BREAST LIFT / MASTOPEXY

A breast lift, also known as a Mastopexy, involves removing excess skin and possibly some breast tissue to raise the nipple to a higher position and increase the volume and projection of the breast. This drooping, saggy breast appearance, may occur after child birth and/or breast feeding as well as after weight loss. In addition to glandular tissue which is affected by hormones during and after pregnancy, the breast also contains fatty tissue that increases or decreases with one’s body weight. Many women’s breasts change after becoming mother’s and the volume may decrease which often leads decent of the position of the nipples. Many patients who choose this procedure have experienced a weight loss, have noticed their breasts lack the volume and projection that was present in addition to decent of one’s nipple position.

If the drooping of your breasts prevents you from wearing your favorite clothes or from wearing bathing suits, you should consider a breast lift to restore breast volume and lift the position of your nipples to provide a perkier look to your breasts. You may be a good candidate for mastopexy if you are a relatively healthy adult at a stable weight who is looking to change the appearance of their breasts. It is vital that you have realistic expectations and a positive outlook. Achieving a breast lift is impossible without a few scars. Patients typically have an incision that runs around the nipple, one that runs from the nipple to beneath your breast and one beneath your breast. Most patients feel the scars are well worth the benefits of surgery.

BENEFITS OF SURGERY

  • Eliminates saggy, excess skin
  • Repositions the nipple to a higher position
  • Restores volume to your breasts

WHAT TO EXPECT

Once the decision is made to move forward with surgery, our team will schedule a pre-procedure visit and help you select your surgery date. A breast lift will be performed under general anesthesia, meaning you will be asleep for the operation. Surgery typically takes about two to three hours to complete. You will have a scar around your nipple, one from your nipple to under your breast and one beneath your breast. Most patients find the benefits outweigh the scars. You will go home the same day as surgery to recover. We recommend you plan for extra help around the house for the days following your procedure as you adjust and recover. Recovery for each patient varies and depends on your lifestyle.
