At What Age Should You Start B-tox?
B-tox or a botulinum toxin neutralizes the neurons that fire the muscles in the face. The result improves the appearance of fine lines in the treatment area. And while the B-tox is indicated for those who are 18 years of age or older, Dr. Szymanski understands that every patient is different with features that may lend themselves to earlier or later treatment.
However, the general rule of thumb is that fine lines should be treated early, before they turn into deeper lines on the face. Fine lines can be treated very effectively with B-tox, but many patients who have deeper lines do not get the aesthetic improvement that they are looking to obtain. Where are you may be tempted to start B-tox injections even before you develop fine lines or wrinkles, we do not suggest doing this without speaking to a board-certified surgeon such as Dr. Szymanski who can offer advice on how your B-tox regimen will affect you into the future
When Do Fine Lines Start to Deepen?
This is entirely resulting from a patient’s unique circumstance. One patient may start to develop deeper lines in their ’20s while in other may have the good fortune of only having fine lines well into their ’40s. As a result, they visit to a qualified B-tox practitioner is important in making that determination. One of the determining factors is whether your lines become deeper over the course of the day. You may wake up with fine lines and end your day with deeper ones. If this is the case, B-tox may certainly be beneficial.
Of course, the B-tox only maintains its effectiveness for a limited period of time. This may be anywhere from 3 to 6 months at which point injections must be repeated. Anecdotally however, Dr. Szymanski has seen patients who have planned to have long-term B-tox injections – over the course of 5 to 10 years, who can usually extend their injection interval.
