What to Expect With Anti-Wrinkle Injections
Anti-wrinkle injections are one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures of any kind in the world. For most, the results are excellent, and the process is straightforward. However, for those that have never had an anti-wrinkle injection, they may be apprehensive about the process and what exactly to expect.
Preparation is very straightforward. You will not have to do much more than come to the office. Once here, your skin will be cleaned and numbing agent or, simply, ice can be used to numb the injection site. These injections are virtually painless with only a slight sting when the needle is inserted and lasting for only a few seconds.
After the Procedure
Immediately after the procedure, you may see red bumps that will slowly go away over the course of about half an hour. These bumps can also be accompanied by light bruising which usually goes away within a few days. In rare cases, some patients develop a mild headache.
One potential complication with muscle relaxants is the risk of droopage and/or swelling in various parts of the face. With that being said, it is important to remember that all of these injections are temporary and if this comes to pass, the results will wear off.
Expectations After the Injection
Anti-wrinkle injections usually take from a few days to about a week to begin to show results. Maximum results are shown at about 2 to 3 weeks. These injections are long lasting and, on average, patients do not need retreatment for about three to four months. For some, the benefit will last up to half a year. It may take more than one treatment to obtain your desired results. The routine use of anti-wrinkle injections will help to smooth unwanted wrinkles.
Ongoing Care
The maximum benefit of anti-wrinkle injections can be improved and extended with a proper face care regimen. This includes excellent hydration throughout the day as well as using daytime and nighttime creams as suggested by Dr. Szymanski. Staying out of the sun will also help the skin maintain a younger look with fewer lines.
