NASAL PROCEDURES

Whether your concerns are cosmetic or reconstructive, nasal surgery can treat many functional abnormalities as well as correct unbalanced facial features. A rhinoplasty, also known as a nose job, involves changing the features of one’s nose. This may be accomplished with an incision which extends from the opening of one nose through the nasal divider (columella) and ends in the other nasal opening. Some people also have difficulty breathing because deviation of their septum (deep tissue separating each nasal opening) and this can be corrected during a rhinoplasty also known as septorhinoplasty. If you desire to change features of your nose, such as you feel it is too wide or crooked, or the tip is too long, a rhinoplasty can help you achieve a nasal shape you prefer. You may be a good candidate for an rhinoplasty if you are a relatively healthy adult who is looking to change one’s nasal features. It is vital that you have realistic expectations and a positive outlook. Performing rhinoplasty is impossible without a scar. Patients typically have an incision that heals well and is be hidden underneath and inside one’s nose. Most patients feel the scar is well worth the benefits of surgery.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Once the decision is made to move forward with surgery, our team will schedule a pre-procedure visit and help you select your surgery date. A rhinoplasty is performed under general anesthesia, meaning you will be asleep for the operation. Surgery typically takes about two to three hours to complete. You will have a scar which extends from one nasal opening to the other. Most patients find the benefits outweigh the scar. You will go home the same day as surgery to recover. You will have a splint on your nose for 1-2 weeks. You may have nasal packing which is removed 2-3 days after surgery. Your stitches will be removed 1 week after surgery. We recommend you plan for extra help around the house for the days following your procedure as you adjust and recover. Recovery for each patient varies and depends on your lifestyle.
